Hendrick Health announces new clinical leadership positions

Hendrick Health is pleased to name Dr. Josh Reed as the healthcare system’s first assistant chief medical information officer (ACMIO).

“Josh is an invaluable resource for our information technology (IT) team and has a natural talent as a collaborator,” said Dr. Rob Wiley, chief medical officer of Hendrick Health. “As our organization continues to develop its IT strategy, he will provide essential clinical leadership to prepare us for the next decade of connected care.”

In the newly created ACMIO role, Dr. Reed will serve as a bridge between medical staff, administration and IT to promote best practices and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Dr. Reed joined the Hendrick Health medical staff in 2014, specializing in supportive and palliative care. Since 2018, he has been the physician advisor for case management at Hendrick Health. He has repeatedly demonstrated his information technologies acumen by serving on the Clinical IT Steering Committee since 2014 and as an IT consultant.

Dr. Reed’s appointment follows clinical leadership appointments of Dr. Allen Schultz as assistant chief medical officer (ACMO) for Hendrick Clinic and Dr. Stephen Lowry as ACMO for Hendrick Health, both in 2024.

The additional medical staff leadership strengthens Hendrick Health’s focus on patient-centric care emphasizing effective communication, empathy and evidence-based practices, said Dr. Wiley.

Allen Schultz, MD
As ACMO for Hendrick Clinic, Dr. Schultz brings more than 24 years of experience in primary care, including emergency department proficiency.

“Allen is an excellent physician who values ‘doing what is right’ for the patient,” said Dr. Wiley. “His collaborative spirit and ability to foster teamwork among our medical staff will contribute significantly to creating a positive environment that promotes both professional development and patient satisfaction.”

Stephen Lowry, MD
An Abilene native, Dr. Lowry has served as chief of staff and in other medical staff leadership roles at Hendrick Health since beginning his anesthesiologist practice in 2004.

“Stephen is a man of integrity and a champion of others,” said Dr. Wiley.
