Ron Fogle, long-time Hendrick Health Board of Trustees member and former Board Chair, was presented the Founders’ Award by the Texas Healthcare Trustees (THT) on July 26, 2024, for his exemplary record of leadership, dedication and excellence in healthcare governance. The award is the highest honor bestowed to a trustee by THT, an affiliate of the Texas Hospital Association.
“Ron is a dedicated servant whose opinion is respected and valued by all,” said Hendrick former Board Chair Joe Melson. “When we are faced with an issue, someone will always ask, ‘Ron, what do you think?’ Over the past four years, Hendrick has successfully navigated the pandemic and the acquisition/integration of two additional hospitals. Ron was an important part of those processes.”
Following graduation from Texas Tech University, Fogle returned to his hometown of Abilene. He worked 27 years in banking, including serving as the executive vice president of First Financial Bank. In 2006, he transitioned into a new career and started Ron Fogle Construction, known for the design and building of custom homes in the Abilene area.
Fogle was first elected to the Hendrick Board of Trustees in 1994 while his father, A.E. Fogle, was still serving on the Board. The senior Fogle, a longtime trustee and former Board Chair, also received the THT Founders’ Award in 1993.
Ron Fogle served his first nine-year term through 2003 and was reelected to the Board in 2004. He served another nine-year term through 2013. He was reelected again to the Board in 2014 for a third term through 2023. He is now serving as trustee emeritus.
During his 27 years of Board service, Fogle was elected twice to be Chair (2002-03 and 2010-12) and has served on and chaired every Hendrick Board committee. In addition, Fogle served as Chair of the Hendrick Medical Center Development Corporation during his two terms as Board Chair.
“When Ron speaks, people listen. This coveted characteristic has been earned after decades of listening more than speaking, but when he does, it’s profound and impactful,” said Brad Holland, Hendrick president and CEO. “Ron’s diverse business background gives him unique perspectives, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with him.”
One of Fogle’s tenures as Board Chair was during Project 2010, the organization’s largest construction project at that time that grew the campus to 10 times its original size.
“With his background in the financial industry before becoming self-employed, Ron has been instrumental in the Board’s oversight of financial decisions and strategies,” said Scott Hibbs, a former Hendrick Board member and Chair.
