As part of a commitment to partner with others for better community health, Hendrick Health recently donated two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to the Paramount Theatre in Abilene.
An AED is a portable, life-saving device to aid people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the use of an AED and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within minutes of a cardiac arrest can significantly improve survival rates.
The donation also included Hendrick Health educators training the Paramount staff on how to use the AED during an emergency. The training occurred in early February, which also is American Heart Month.
