Hendrick Health announces renovations completed at Hendrick Rehabilitation Hospital

Hendrick Health announces the completion of major renovations of Hendrick Rehabilitation Hospital that include adding a vehicle transfer simulator, the ZeroG Gait and Balance System and the Barihab treatment table in the inpatient gym.

Patient rooms, the inpatient gym, the dining room, nurses’ stations and other support rooms have been remodeled to maximize patient comfort and staff workflow efficiencies.

“We opened up some spaces where patients and families can be together in the recovery process,” said Dr. Ferral Endsley, medical director for Hendrick Rehabilitation Hospital. “We also have a secured balcony that allows patients and their families access to fresh air while still being in the hospital and receiving care from our rehab team.”

Located on the second floor of Hendrick Center for Rehabilitation at 1934 Hickory St., the 31-bed hospital provides inpatient therapy services for individuals with spinal cord injury, head injury, stroke, multiple trauma, debility, joint replacement, amputations and other neurological and orthopedic conditions.

“Thanks to the remodeling, we have a more functional therapy treatment area with the opportunity to serve a wider range of patient diagnoses,” said Endsley.

Along with major renovations to the hospital, new technology has been added. A vehicle transfer simulator, donated by the Hanner Family and Hanner Chevrolet, has functional doors, reclining bucket seats and other features to feel like a real car. Using this equipment, therapists help patients learn and practice safely entering and exiting a vehicle in the comforts of the inpatient gym.

The ZeroG robotic body-weight support system is mounted on an overhead track and above a treadmill station. The system provides dynamic support, fall protection and real-time biofeedback while therapists monitor a patient’s movements. Without the risk of falling, patients have the confidence to practice functional and real-world activities, such as walking and getting up from a chair. The James A. Buddy Davidson Charitable Foundation provided a grant for the ZeroG system.

The Barihab treatment table has a 1,000-pound lifting capacity to enable effective rehab for a wide range of patients. The table supports sit-to-stand movement, standing balance, core strengthening, transfer training and gait training, making it the ultimate tool for bariatric patients.

Patients at Hendrick Rehabilitation Hospital receive individualized care from a multispecialty team that, depending on their needs, can include a physician, social worker, case manager, registered nurse, physical therapy, occupational therapist, speech-language pathologist, respiratory therapist and rehab specialist.

Hendrick Health is a designated Primary Stroke Center and Joint Commission certified in Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement, as well as a hospital partner with the Amputee Coalition. These recognitions allow our patients to receive world-class rehabilitative care, close to home.
