Rick Gonzalez

When did you begin at Hendrick Health?

I started working at Hendrick in June 2007 as a construction tech III. After a few years, I was promoted to a lead tech position. For the past six years, I have been tasked with the construction foreman position.

Why have you continued to work at Hendrick Health?

I have continued to work at Hendrick Health because I feel it's a great place to work. The benefits are great, and you get to meet and work with all kinds of different people and departments daily.

I like the different challenges that come with my job - from the smallest to the largest of construction projects. Some of them not even having to do with construction.

I like knowing that I have been a part of the growth of Hendrick Health.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the heritage and independence of the Hispanic culture and showcase the accomplishments of the Hispanic community. And don't forget about all of the great Hispanic music, food, drinks and dancing!

Josue Hernandez

When did you begin at Hendrick Health?

I began working at the hospital in Brownwood as a dietitian aid in the food services area. Soon after that, I was offered a position in respiratory therapy as an EKG tech. I was in that role for several years. I developed wonderful relationships and enjoyed that position both inside and outside of the hospital setting.

The hospital census began to decrease, and that position was eliminated; however, I had the opportunity to work in the engineering department. I started working in maintenance and every day was full of new experiences and learning opportunities. The team was always there to lend a hand and teach me tasks that I applied to everyday situations outside of the hospital.

In 2019, I was offered a position in biomed, and it has been a great learning experience for me. I enjoy taking on the challenge of learning about the maintenance of the equipment we use throughout the hospital and clinics.

Why have you continued to work at Hendrick Health?

Opportunity. There’s always room to grow, learn and better yourself.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

I believe it's important to take the time to remember and celebrate our Hispanic roots. Even though I was born in the United States, I was able to experience life in both countries. My parents came from poor locations in Mexico. I remember visiting their hometown and seeing kids working just to help make ends meet. Seeing what my parents and many others went through with all of the struggles, progress and contributions they made, has taught me a lot. This month's celebration reminds me to take a step back and appreciate who I am and be thankful for all of the blessings God has given me. In a country with such diverse backgrounds, it's awesome to have this month to celebrate and treasure the Hispanic/Latino heritage.

Gilbert Aguirre

When did you begin at Hendrick Health?

I started in August 2017 as a pharmacy intern. In August 2020, I was hired as a transition-of-care pharmacist in the emergency department. I am currently working as an inpatient pharmacist.

Why have you continued to work at Hendrick Health?

Hendrick has provided a myriad of experiences in the pharmacy world. In my short time as a pharmacist, I have had the opportunity to experience how most aspects of pharmacy come together to provide total patient care. I hope to continue to grow with Hendrick in my pharmacy career and all that it has to offer.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

Hispanic Heritage Month allows me to reflect on the sacrifices of those before me that have allowed me to be where I am today. I am particularly grateful to the sacrifices made by my parents and grandparents. Last but not least, I reflect and partake in all of the great food of my Mexican heritage!
