Hendrick Health unveils commissioned painting honoring healthcare workers during COVID-19 crisis
Today, Hendrick Health unveiled a special painting honoring its healthcare workers and their battle with COVID-19. The piece will hang at Hendrick Medical Center, Hendrick Medical Center South and Hendrick Hospice Care Center in Abilene, as well as at Hendrick Medical Center in Brownwood.
The inspiration behind the piece began when Hendrick Hospice Care Medical Director Lauren Templeton, desiring to guide her team through the unknowns of COVID-19, approached Hendrick Hospice Care CNA and artist Bonnie Buchanan to interpret this time of uncertainty through art based on the Bible passages referencing the Armor of God.
Buchanan created a piece and Templeton shared the original artwork with the Hendrick Hospice Board and the Mission and Ministry Committee of the Hendrick Board of Trustees. The Mission and Ministry Committee contacted local artist Jack Harkins and commissioned him to paint a piece using Buchanan’s art as inspiration. The finished painting honors Hendrick healthcare workers and their commitment to the organization’s mission, especially during the pandemic. The artwork will hang at each of Hendrick’s three hospitals and at Hendrick Hospice Care Center.
