Hendrick Regional Blood Center is now collecting convalescent plasma from recovered COVID-19 patients. As part of a research trial overseen by Mayo Clinic, Hendrick is offering convalescent plasma therapy as an option for physicians treating individuals with severe COVID-19.
Studies show that antibodies develop in patients who have recovered from COVID-19. Through a special process, a donor’s blood is collected and separated– only removing the donor’s plasma. The rest of the blood components are returned into the donor’s body.
Individuals who have had a confirmed positive test result for COVID-19 and have recovered, may be eligible to donate convalescent plasma. Test documentation is required. For more information on the process or to find out eligibility requirements, contact Hendrick Regional Blood Center at 325-670-2798. Appointments are required for convalescent plasma donations.
