Diabetes continues to grow at an alarming rate in the United States, with more than 30 million Americans facing possible devastating consequences of the condition. Approximately 2.9 million Texans, or 14.6 percent of the adult population, have diabetes. Because Hendrick Diabetes Center is dedicated to diabetes education and to the management of the disease, the community is invited to attend a free seminar, Saturday, Jan. 11 from 8 a.m. – Noon. Deep in the Heart of Texas Diabetes Expo, formerly Diabetes Texas Style, will be held in the Auxiliary Conference Center of Hendrick Medical Center’s Shelton Building, 2000 Pine St.
Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Joji Varghese will begin the day by talking about diabetes and heart health. Endocrinologist Dr. Jason Bell will give an overview of diabetes and discuss symptoms, risk factors, diabetes management and new research. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in interactive education.
Diabetes can lead to serious complications, but those with diabetes can lower the occurrence of complications by learning how to manage their condition.
